Wire EDM Processing Principle

The Wire Electric Discharge Machining used in Sanluo Precision’s processing plant uses moving metal wire as the tool electrode and the workpiece as the other electrode. There is a gap between the two electrodes, and spark discharge occurs under the action of pulse power supply to cut by electric corrosion. The processing principle is that the metal wire moves at a speed of 80~200m/min, the discharge gap is 0.01~0.02mm, the single pulse energy is very small but the frequency is very high, tens of thousands of discharges per second, continuously eroding materials to form cutting seams.


Equipment Technology and Capacity

Wire EDM equipment is divided into low-speed wire-cut equipment according to processing accuracy and efficiency, with processing accuracy of ±0.002mm to ±0.003mm, surface roughness Ra0.2μm to 0.4μm, cutting thickness ≤400mm, taper cutting ±30°. Medium-speed wire-cut EDM processing accuracy is between ±0.005~0.008mm, surface roughness Ra0.8~1.6μm, processing thickness not exceeding 500mm, low price. High-speed wire-cut EDM processing accuracy is ±0.015mm~0.02mm, surface roughness Ra2.5μm~3.2μm, cutting thickness ≤600mm, high efficiency. Electrode wire materials include copper wire, molybdenum wire, galvanized wire, with a diameter of 0.1mm to 0.25mm. We select reasonable Wire Electric Discharge Machining equipment by comprehensively balancing part accuracy and processing efficiency. 


Quality Assurance Capacity

Multiple cutting methods are adopted: rough cutting, semi-finish cutting, finish cutting, fine trimming, gradually reaching the drawing accuracy. The equipment is equipped with on-line inspection, using laser probe to detect dimensions, correct allowance and wire loss. After wire EDM processing, image measuring instrument is used to measure profile accuracy, and roughness meter is used to detect surface quality.
